You can choose light-colored siding (or those with UV-resistant coatings) to help deflect some of the UV radiation and reduce its effects. Patio covers, strategically placed trees and other objects in the yard can provide shade that can block sunlight. As an extra, the shade can reduce the heat that would be otherwise absorbed by the roof and exterior walls, which may help you save on your cooling bills.
